The Essential Equipment Checklist To Deliver The Best Home Workouts
With the cost of living expenses rising at a pretty alarming rate, you might be considering ditching the gym for home workouts. There’s no costly monthly fees or gas guzzling commutes where home workouts are concerned. There is of course, an upfront investment involved. Kitting out your home with equipment doesn’t need to be expensive but the proper set up will require a small splurge. However, this will undoubtedly save you a considerable amount of money in the long term and that’s the beauty of it.
Some people miss out on the benefits of home workouts because they simply don’t know where to start. There are so many different pieces of equipment and different exercise plans that the whole process can become quite overwhelming. Luckily for you, we are here to break it down for you and help you on your way to building your perfect home gym. We have outlined the essential pieces of equipment we’d recommend to get started with in order to achieve the best results.
1. Resistance Band set
A resistance band is one of the most versatile pieces of fitness equipment you can own. You can target pretty much every muscle group with a resistance band and get a really good workout from it. What’s more, unlike a dumbbell or barbell – you keep constant tension on your muscle throughout the full range of motion
Our handled resistance band set is a great option if you’re looking for a high quality one. We have varying levels of resistance which allows you to progressively overload your muscles to stimulate muscle growth
2. Weight vest
Weight vests are another great product to have in your home workout arsenal. Body weight exercises are a common go-to for home workouts because you can put your muscles under load without the need for additional weights. The beauty of weight vests is that you can use them to increase your strength on those bodyweight exercises. For example, press-ups, planks, door pullups are all exercises that you can get stronger at by using a weight vest.
Our weight vests give you the ability to alter the weight to your liking as you can remove the sand bags at 1kg increments.
Barbells are great for compound exercises which target multiple muscle groups. Which gives you more bang for your buck. A slightly larger upfront investment is needed for a barbell, (+ weight plates) to complete this set up. However, these are usually very durable and don’t need replacing for a long time.
4. Dumbbells or Kettlebell
Bit of a no brainer this one but let’s go over why these are great. One of the best items for upper and lower body workouts out there. The range of motion with a dumbbell is unmatched by any other equipment due to the free-flowing movements you can perform. You can use a dumbbell to isolate pretty much every muscle in your body. For inspiration and free workout plans, we have a variety of different dumbbell workouts on our social media pages here.
We also stock dumbbells that range from 4kg – 32kg in both rubber and Polyurethane rubber.
5. Cardio equipment
Wouldn’t be a complete list without this… you can’t neglect cardio!
Now I could have put any cardiovascular equipment at the top spot but I chose the treadmill for one main reason. You have a lot of control in regards to the amount of energy you wish to expend on one of these. You can opt for anything from a long-distanced walk to a series of interval sprints. Furthermore, the folding treadmill functionality means you can tuck it away when you’re not using it. Our JLL treadmills also have Bluetooth + speakers so you can entertain yourself whilst you run, jog or walk on the treadmill, to fulfil your cardio needs.
Similar to the treadmill, you can opt for long distance rows at a slower pace or more interval-based training. We have a variety of different high-quality rowers at great prices.
Exercise bikes are another solid piece of cardio equipment that are sure to guarantee a great workout. Make sure to find the right type of bike that’s suitable for you. We offer Indoor Cycles, Upright Bikes and Recumbent Bikes
